Wine for thought at the Regent Jakarta

The Regent Jakarta announces a new place to savour the moment. The Cellar, a cozy outlet focusing on wines and cigars, is a perfect place for lovers of a good vintage and a fine cigar.

The Cellar, located on the first level of the hotel, is open daily from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM. However, with its the rustic wooden floor, old Batavia furniture, Mediterranean yellow-washed walls and ceiling, together with jazz music in the background, the popular spot sometimes extends its hours due to the high demand from its customers.

The wines are professionally stored in a cool pebble-floored cellar with vaulted ceiling. The outlet has a selection of first growth wines such as Chateau Margaux, while the Burgundy features mostly the wines of Rodet. From Australia, there is a fine selection from Wolf Blass, Penfolds and Rosemount Estate. From Italy, the selection ranges from Moscato by Prunoto to the magnificent Gaja. From Germany, a selection of Rieslings are available.

(Most of the wines are imported directly and exclusively for the shop. The shop has a selection of wines from the old and new worlds. New selections of wines from France and Spain will be added in August.

From Spain, there will be Vega Sicilia Unico 1990 and Vega Sicilia Unico 1985. For Bourgogne collections there will be Richebourg 1996, Domaine de la Romanee Conti and La Tache 1997, Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Best of the new collections will include a wide range of Bordeaux selections such as Chateau l'Angelus 1994 and Virginie de Valandraud 1997 (St. Emilion), La Croix du Casse 1998 (Pomerol), Chateau Pontet Canet 1996, Chateau Latour 1996, Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1986, Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1995 (Pauillac), cos d'Estournel 1995 (St. Estephe), Chateau Haut Brion 1988 (Pessac Leognan), Chateau Margaux 1989 and a series of Chateau du Puy, the sulphur-free wines.

The Cellar also carries a good selection of Cuban cigars such as Cohibas, Romeo Y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterey and Montecristo, as well as a selection from The Dominican Republic such as Davidoff. Cigars can be purchased by the stick or box. There are also humidity-controlled lockers where customers can keep their cigars.

A complete range of the world's most appreciated wine glasses from Riedel, an Austrian crystal glass maker is also available in the outlet. Riedel is widely regarded as the expert in designing wine glasses and he has created a specific glass for every variety of grape.

The outlet itself is available for private or intimate dinners for up to 12 people. Special menus have been designed by Chef Bernhard Mayer, which when complimented with the right wine, makes for a memorable evening.

"We want to make The Cellar a place for vintage lovers who appreciate a fine cigar in combination with good food. The team will recommend the best combination for your private dinner," stated Tom Roelens, executive assistant manager of The Regent Jakarta. "The Cellar is a place to hang around in the afternoon for small meetings or even a chat in the afternoon among friends or relatives."
