There was a time when a burger meant a ground beef patty on a round bun. Today gourmet burgers are more than just that simple combo. And there is no rule making the patty beef or the bun round. These days a gourmet burger may not even contain any meat at all. It could be a paddy made for the vegetarian tastes made from tofu. It can be a chicken burger or pork or beef. The patty itself may be seasoned in many different ways and the bun may be square or oval. The patty is really the most important part of the burger.

If we consider just the patty of a gourmet burger it is important to look at the ingredients. The best gourmet or top quality meat burger will be made from prime cuts of meat and not the combined leftovers of the butchering process. They will be low in fat made from lean meat and not contain additional water. Cheap ground meats may have water added to increase the weight of the product to benefit the vendor. Always read the ingredients list when you buy a ground meat product. With a gourmet quality burger patty you are ensured a healthier meal with less fat.

The chicken gourmet burgers will be made from moist breast meat and may be served breaded. The less expensive chicken burgers are made from compressed chicken pieces from all parts of the bird. It does not provide the same thick and juicy burger that the gourmet version offers.
