  • KFC announces adoption of industry-leading poultry guidelines
    Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation today committed to the adoption of comprehensive industry-leading guidelines and audits for the humane raising and handling of poultry. The company additionally requested the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Labor to review a proposal on the feasibility of gas-killing chickens as an alternative to current methods used in the United States. The proposal has been suggested by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

  • Local animal breeds still threatened by extinction
    Traditional animal breeds are some of the most threatened animal genetic resources in the world, says a UN Food and Agriculture Organization report submitted to the FAO European Commission on Agriculture. However, linking certain breeds with specific animal food products, in some cases has successfully contributed to a better conservation and utilisation of local breeds in Europe, FAO said. The report will be discussed at the next meeting of the FAO/ECA in Rome, 12-14 October.
